Kids getting too little exercise? Get a dog!

As the rate of childhood obesity rises, so do the health problems that accompany being overweight and obese. It’s scary to think that our current teenagers will not outlive their parents unless something is done to stop this trend.

Fatty foods, sugary foods, and too much time sitting on the couch playing video games and watching TV are often blamed for the growing obesity rates. We know what’s to blame, but how do we fix it? Parents know that nagging their kids to get off the couch and go outside to play isn’t usually effective.

Here’s a solution: get a dog! A recent study showed that kids with dogs spent more time being active at moderate to vigorous levels, and less time being sedentary. So get a dog, and get walking!
