Food Animals

Food animal veterinarians provide preventative care, test and vaccinate animals like cattle, pigs, sheep and poultry. In addition, they serve as a resource for animal owners on various issues like breeding, feeding and housing. About one-fourth of all veterinarians work in mixed practice which consists of seeing both small animals and large animals. Food animal veterinarians work to improve the well-being of farm animals and the economic success of their owners by raising awareness of issues critical to agricultural producers.
