Non-clinical practice
Veterinarians who work in non-clinical practice conduct clinical research on human/animal health problems and develop new ways to use that knowledge. Others work in Public Health and research ways to prevent and treat human health problems. Veterinarians who are food safety inspectors check animals for contagious diseases and ensure the food we eat is safe and wholesome. They inspect products produced at food processing plants, checking both live animals and carcasses for disease and enforce government regulations regarding food purity and sanitation. Veterinarians also work in food security and work along the borders as animal and plant inspectors and examine imports and exports.
