Zoonotic Disease

We share our world with animals, but we also share some diseases with them. Zoonotic (pronounced “ZOO-oh-NOT-ick”) diseases are diseases that spread from animals to people. Many of the diseases you hear about are zoonotic in origin, such as AIDS, Ebola virus, SARS, West Nile and others. In fact, it’s estimated that as many as 75% of the world’s emerging diseases are zoonotic.
